Fred Rogers taught generations that feelings are natural, mentionable, and manageable. This presentation style workshop, led by Dr. Nicole Johnson, extends his legacy into adult professional spaces, exploring how unprocessed grief, loss, and childhood wounds surface in emotionally demanding work such as DEIA (diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility) practice, education, and caregiving. Drawing from autoethnographic research and lived experience, the session introduces Dr. Johnson's Playmaker tools—curriculums, written resources, embodiment practices, communication techniques and direct care activities—to support emotional processing and sustainability in the workplace. The workshop also weaves Dr. Johnson's professional journey with the illustrated story of Melvin, a child learning to name grief and move forward with care after a traumatic incident in her neighborhood. Participants leave with a picture of embodied strategies, navigating childhood wounds, and emotional processing in the workplace.
